Birds of India
This page is intended to help the lay-person easily identify common birds and get further information. The data is extracted from "The Book of Indian Birds" by Salim Ali. Pictures are from Wikipedia and each species points to the relevant Wikipedia page for further information.
- Common Birds of Bombay (Mumbai): This is a simple pictorial list of the commonest birds (in my opinion) that one is likely to see in urban Bombay. In greener areas like IIT and the Borivali National Park, one is obviously likely to see many more species.
- Bird Identification Guide (India): This is the new version with a mobile-friendly interface. It allows you to select criteria like size, colours and other features detailed in the tables at the beginning of Salim Ali's book for quick identification. The results include multiple pictures (where available) and a link to the relevant Wikipedia page for more details.
Old Bird Identification Guide (India): This is the original version from 2010. The results are displayed in a table with pictures popping up when you hover the cursor over the name.
Old Common Birds of Bombay (Mumbai): This is the original version from 2010. Simple thumbnails with popups for more info.
